CHARITY LAWYER

Carters is currently looking for a Charity Lawyer with a minimum of three years experience in charity and not-for-profit law with a focus in corporate and tax law to join our team of charity and not-for-profit lawyers. The successful candidate will work on a wide variety of files including those dealing with incorporations, applications for charitable status, gift planning and providing advice on complex corporate and tax structuring. The successful candidate will also be primarily remote but will connect with our team in-person at either our Orangeville or Ottawa office locations on a weekly basis.

PROJECT MANAGER - ORANGEVILLE

Carters  is one of the leading firms in Canada in the area of charity and not-for-profit law and we have a full-time on-site position for an experienced Project Manager for our Orangeville or Ottawa office location.

The Project/Operations Manager is responsible for leading several projects and programs within a variety of areas of our business. Examples of these programs include: coordinating seminars/webinars, advertising and promotion of the firm, tracking and keeping on target all writing assignments and publications, training new staff and maintaining our legal archives. Along with this, the potential candidate should have some IT experience in order to coordinate online presentations, step into the role of our in-house software trainer and be able to efficiently work with programs like PowerPoint, as well as the technical writing nuances of Word.

Here is what you will need to be successful:

  • Post Secondary education
  • 5+ years of work experience (preferably in a Professional Services environment)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Be tech savvy (to assist with seminars, webinars, tradeshows and IT support)
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
  • High professional standards with an energetic & positive attitude
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks / deadlines
  • Be able to solve challenging problems in a fast-paced environment while also working collaboratively in a team environment

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT – ORANGEVILLE CONTRACT POSITION

Carters has a full-time 6 to 12 month contract position (depending upon the candidate) for an Administrative Assistant, with an immediate start date for our Orangeville Office located at 211 Broadway, Orangeville, Ontario.

  • Candidate should have an administrative background with some business experience.
  • Duties will include a variety of administrative and technical responsibilities.
  • Some experience in a legal environment is preferred but not essential
  • Strong word processing skills and familiarity with MS Office is required.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills are necessary.
  • This position requires the individual to work at our 211 Broadway location, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Salary is commensurate with the level of related experience

ARTICLING STUDENT RECRUITMENT 2024–2025

Position in Orangeville Law Firm

Carters is a mid-sized law firm with offices in Orangeville, Toronto and Ottawa, Ontario, and with a focus on charity and not-for-profit law and experience in civil litigation, corporate/commercial, real estate, intellectual property, privacy, wills and estates, employment law, and risk management.

The firm has fifteen lawyers and twenty supporting staff, and is looking for one articling student for the Orangeville office for the 2024–2025 articling term, starting in early August 2024, or as soon thereafter as possible.

Our articling program involves work with many of the fifteen lawyers and in numerous areas of law with a primary focus on charity and not-for-profit law. Duties may include: legal research, memo writing, papers and publications, charity tax, meeting with lawyers and clients, appearing in court, corporate/commercial work, real estate transactions, employment work, trademarks and copyright, legal drafting, some court filing and clerical work, including social media and online publications. Students will also be heavily involved with preparing legal articles and papers, including research, writing and editing.

Students should have strong communication, research, writing and editing skills, as well as excellent time management, organizational and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of legal research programs such as CanLII and Westlaw is essential.
