•Bill S-202, An Act to Amend the Payment Card Networks
Act (credit card acceptance fees), received first reading on
October 17, 2013
•It proposes to limit credit card acceptance fees charged
by “designated payment card networks” to merchants who accept payment
by credit card, eliminating credit card acceptance fees being
charged to charities
–Currently, only MasterCard and Visa are proposed
to be “designated payment card networks”
•If passed without amendments, Bill S-202 would
benefit charities by allowing donations to be made by
credit card without additional credit card acceptance fees
