Industry Canada announced on October 11th that the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (CNCA) would come into force on Monday, October 17, 2011. The CNCA will have a significant impact on how charitable and not-for-profit organizations incorporated under the existing Canada Corporations Act will operate in the future. In response, Carters Professional Corporation hosted breakfast seminars for members of the sector in Ottawa on Tuesday, November 29, and in Toronto, on Thursday, December 1, 2011.
These seminars provided a detailed and practical explanation of the implications of continuing under the CNCA, and covered the following topics:
What continuance under the CNCA involves;
What provisions to include in the articles of continuance;
Drafting of by-laws to address all mandatory, optional and alternate rules;
Other important issues to be aware of when continuing under the CNCA.
