Mervyn F. White B.A., LL.B., Trade-mark Agent
Mr. White was called to the Ontario Bar in 1995 and has been practicing
law with Terrance Carter since that time, having become a partner
of the firm in 2006. Mr. White acts as litigation counsel to individuals,
as well as to churches, charities, not-for-profit organizations,
businesses and corporations. As litigation counsel, Mr. White is
involved in litigation in many areas of the law, including charity
and not-for-profit law, human rights, insurance law, personal injury
and fatal accident claims, medical malpractice, family law, administrative
disputes, trade-mark and copyright litigation, tax litigation, corporate,
commercial and employment litigation, as well as complaints before
both the Ontario and Canadian Human Rights Tribunals. Mr. White
also counsels the firm's clients on how to avoid litigation through
organizational policies and risk management audits.
Mr. White is a member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association,
the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the Christian Legal
Society. As a contributing author to www.charitylaw.ca, Mr. White
has written on topics including criminal liability introduced by
Bill C-45 and its effect on insurance coverage for charities, changes
to Ontario's Limitations Act, fundraising on the internet
and the new privacy law and has been cited by LawPro, a publication
for lawyers, regarding the new privacy law. Mr. White has also been
a regular speaker at the annual Church & Charity Law
Seminar, as well as a guest speaker for organizations such as the
Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the National Society
of Fund Raising Executives (NSFRE), Canadian Fundraiser, and the
Christian Legal Intervention Academy on a number of legal issues
affecting churches, charities and not-for-profit organizations,
including employment law and documenting policies for same sex marriage
and religious facility use.
